The countryside around the village of Rebrevtsi is extremely beautiful. The houses with stone roofs, which are typical for the Mountains of Elena, make you dream about your snug place in a village. Successful rural tourism has been developed in recent years here. The nearness of the village to the Yovkovtsi Artificial Lake attracts many nature and fishing lovers. The picturesque town of Elena is 13 km away.
The town of Elena is located in the Central Balkan Mountain. It lies in the lovely valley of the Elena river. The surrounding hills are overgrown with deciduous trees. Elena has managed to preserve a great part of its architectural heritage.The tower clock, constructed by an unknown master-builder, is a remarkable cultural monument. It can be seen from any place in the town. Elena during the Revival had an important role in the history of the Bulgarian education and church independence fights. The St Nikolas church is the oldest one in the town. It was built in the beginning of the 16 th century and was dug in the ground because it had been constructed secretly. It is said that numerous old books written on parchment were kept in it. In the museum of the Bulgarian national revival, collections of icons and precious works of the religious art are held. Kapinovski and Plakovski monasteries are situated in the outskirts of Elena. Hiking fans will be surprised pleasantly by a number of scenic tourist routes and eco-paths. Adventurers can practise rock climbing both in the open-air or in a hall. Fishing lovers will enjoy catching fish in the crystal-clear water of the river. Tourists can camp by the banks of the Elena river where a campsite with barbecue places were built up. For those who love ski tourism the Summit Choumerna provides ski facilities. The population of Elena earns its living with stock-breeding, fruit and vine growing. Any house you visit you will be offered home-made vine or plum brandy.
