The village of Vishovgrad is located in North-Central Bulgaria. It is part of Pavlikeni Municipality, Veliko Turnovo District. Pavlikeni Municipality covers the western central part of Veliko Turnovo Region and is bordered by the municipalities of Veliko Turnovo, Svishtov, Polski Trambesh, Sevlievo, Suhindol and Levski. Its area is 609.3 km2, which is 13.1% of the territory of the region. Traces of the life of the pre-historic man, which are found on the territory of the municipality, date back to 40,000-14,000 B.C. 4 km on the west of Pavlikeni there is a unique for the Balkan Peninsula antique ceramic center, which existed from 3rd to 4th century A.D. The excavated remains of houses and workshops are conserved and exhibited. The facilities, used for the display of the movable findings and the organization of research activities, as well as the overall development of this area, make the sight an attractive tourist destination, too. Geological research shows that the municipality is deficient in mineral resources. There are only raw materials for construction ceramics (marl), as well as rocks and inert materials. There is also underground thermal water. The municipality comprises 2 towns – Pavlikeni and Byla cherkva, and 18 villages. The urban territory is 7.4% of the total municipality. The average floorage is 25 m2 per person and the total number of lodgings is 12,725. The transport network includes 92 km of 3rd and 95 km of 4th class roads, as well as 364 km of streets. The railway stations are Butovo, Pavlikeni, Stambolovo-Mihaltsi and Lesicheri. All towns and villages in the municipality are serviced by the Automated Central Telephone Exchange and have a GSM and Mobiphone coverage. Pavlikeni Municipality has conceded the rights for gasification of its territory and is in the process of project development for the gasification of the town of Pavlikeni. The population of the municipality is 32,230 of which 15,551 – active. The population is concentrated in the two towns – more than 52% people live there.
