LOCATION: The village of Bukovets is located in North-Central Bulgaria and it is part of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality, Veliko Tarnovo District. Veliko Tarnovo is the old capital of Bulgaria in the Middle Ages and due to this fact one of the most remarkable tourist sights. There are remains of the medieval citadel of Tsarevets, overlooking the Yantra river, old churches and preserved Revival houses, which are of interest to both Bulgarian and foreign tourists. City visitors can also enjoy the magnificent audio-visual spectacle of Sound and Light. Veliko Tarnovo, known as the Town of Tsars in the past, lies along the Yantra River and is the place where main roads, connecting East with West Bulgaria and Central Europe with the Arabian peninsula, cross. In the neighbouring town of Gorna Oryahovitsa the biggest railway station in North Bulgaria and an airfield are situated. The village of Bukovets lies on a mountainside affording views of the historic Summit Shipka, Summit Buzludzha, and Summit Botev, which is the highest one in the Balkan Mountains. The monastery of St Yoan Rilski is situated on the right bank of the Tsarpetrovska River, 3-4 km to the west of the village. Tsar Ivan Sratsimir had the monastery built and its architecture reminds the one of the court monasteries in Veliko Tarnovo.
