SREDETS is a town in southeastern Bulgaria, part of Burgas Province, located in the proximity of Lake Mandrensko and the northern slopes of Strandzha.
The area of Sredets has been inhabited since antiquity and a Bulgarian and Byzantine fortress existed nearby during the Middle Ages. The modern town was first mentioned in 1595 by one of the foreign travellers who passed through. Local amenities include well supplied food shops, restaurants, cafes, school, church and a Post Office. Set in a hilly area the town benefits with nice surroundings. 25 km is the distance to the coastal city of BOURGAS - well known for its beautiful beaches, modern international airport and busy night life. The magnificent historical sea town of Sozopol is located only 46 km from Sredets.
14km from the town is situated a lake, offering fishing as a leisure activity. It is a good chance to explore the beauty of the Bulgarian countryside and to escape from the crowded noisy cities.
